Union Leaders in Zimbabwe Need Our Solidarity

Tim Newman, Campaigns Assistant, International Labor Rights Forum

As the election controversy continues in Zimbabwe, trade union leaders are facing violence and_44796006_apmugabe466

from the Mugabe regime.  Some of the recent abuses targeting union leaders include the arrests of Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) leaders Lovemore Matombo and Wellington Chibebe, threats and intimidation of activists with the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, raiding of union offices and detention of union activists among many other abuses.

ILRF is tracking the latest news and developments related to violence against trade unionists in Zimbabwe.  People around the world can show their solidarity with organizations at the forefront of the struggle for democracy, human rights and social justice in Zimbabwe by contributing to the Zimbabwe Solidarity Fund. All of the proceeds from this fund go directly to a Zimbabwe-based committee that includes representatives of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition and the Zimbabwe National Students Union which will then disburse the funds to Zimbabwean activists.  Please consider making a contribution today -- no amount is too small!
